About KTnoelle
KTnoelle is a traditionally trained artist who deals mainly in Paint (both Oil and Acrylic) and Pen & Ink. Her works, while diverse in subject matter, share a common theme: the unfamiliar familiar.
Many of KTnoelle’s works evoke a sense of unease or discomfort— this is by design. KTnoelle’s work is not quite dreamlike, but more of that of a threshold: welcoming the viewer to look at an unresolved scene inspired by nostalgia, the unobtainable, and the unavoidable.
Uncertainty and unease linger in her pieces, often accompanied by subdued humor. The humor utilized isn’t forthright, but creates an added quiet tension in the work. Instead of shocking the viewer with explicitness, KTnoelle manages to capture them with a warped mirror of reality that grows their attention the more they look.
Rather than focusing on scientific accuracy, KTnoelle lets the vagueness of nostalgia guide her process and technique. The result is a dreamlike scape that is a little too strange to recognize, but a little too familiar to seem new.
This landscape born of KTnoelle’s works acts as a representation of self, identity, and ego. Viewers are able to relate through the lack of an imposed self, rather than through its presence. Combined with her use of concept play (particularly, but not limited to, in her titling of works), she nudges the viewer into an emotional space where familiar ideas are destabilized and interior experience becomes the ground for reality.
