Artist Bio
Raised as one of six military brats in a religious household, I found art as a way to set myself apart and escape into another world. Art became an outlet that I could transform my hindered thoughts to without trying to find the words. Subjects that were considered taboo or were unspoken of in my upbringing swirled around in my head and funneled themselves into my creations. In my paintings,I aim to explore the reality and hypocrisy of the world in my works through the absurd and surreal. Looking at my works, I want the viewer to feel slightly uncomfortable.
Once a mostly graphite and charcoal artist, I now work primarily in Oil Paints and Pen and Ink. While I strive to evoke unease or awkwardness in many of my paintings, my Pen and Ink drawings take a different tone. Perhaps influenced by the breathiness of the utensil, I loosely flitter delicate forms of nature on the paper. My goal is to capture the essence of the animal or plant rather than its natural accuracies.
